In this film light is shed on the lifecycle of the Zeeland mussel in an intimate manner. The mussel that loves, that holds on with all its might, and the mussel that is cast off by storm.
On its way, the mussel encounters passionate enthusiasts who fall in love, struggle and overcome. Like biologist Annelies who introduces us to the sexual habitat of mussels and gynaecologist Jan uses the glue mussels makes to save the lives of unborn babies. The Belgians look forward to it with bated breath, just like top chef Sergio Herman. The start of the mussel season.

The film was the opening of the Kulinarische Kino at the Berlinale, Berlin 2012. It competed for the Magic Hour Award and the Canon Cinematography Award at the Planete+ Doc festival in Warsaw, Poland (May 2013).

Worldpremiere: CPH:DOX. The film is shown on festivals around the world and broadcasted by HBO South America. In the Netherlands it has it ’s premiere at Film by the Sea and was shown at IDFA and NFF.
